Class: Year 5/6

Teacher: Mrs Doughty

Support Staff: Mrs Abbott and Mrs Sheeraz

PE times / kit needed:

PE days are TUESDAY and THURSDAY. Please ensure your child has school uniform for PE days, including trainers.

Year 5/6 will take part in Forest Schools on TUESDAYS for Autumn 1 term. The last session will be on Tuesday 22nd October.
As this is a PE day, your child can wear their PE uniform, but a change of shoes is recommended. Children must also have a coat for these sessions.

Homework expectations:

Spelling homework will be sent home each FRIDAY and children will be tested the following Friday. Tests will be completed in the back of home spelling books,
so parents and carers can see how their child is getting on in weekly tests. Please ensure your child has their book in school on Fridays so that new spellings
can be sent home and tests completed.

In addition to reading and spellings, Y5/6 pupils will have a short maths task to complete each week.
This will also be sent home on FRIDAY and should be returned on THURSDAY to allow time for marking and new homework to be set.

Reading expectations:

Children in Year 5/6 are encouraged to read as widely to continue to improve their fluency and comprehension. Children should record their independent reading in their yellow reading records along with any reading they do with an adult. We would encourage you to continue reading with your child at least once a week to maintain their fluency when reading aloud. If your child has at least 3 entries in their reading record, they will receive a green sticker in their record; for 1 or 2 entries they will receive an orange sticker; and a red sticker for no entries or the record not being in school. Those children with all green stickers for each half term will be entered into a prize draw and awarded a certificate.

Other important information:

·        Please could you make sure your child has a labelled water bottle in school every day.

·        Reading records and books should be in school every day

·        We provide all the equipment your child will need during the school day. We ask that personal pencil cases, stationery and toys are left at home
to avoid upset if things are lost or broken.

The Year 5/6 team looks forward to a happy, fun and successful year ahead!
