Welcome to Year 1
Welcome to our Year 1 Class Page!
The teachers in our class are Mrs Pape and Mrs Higgins.
We hope you enjoy looking at our page and seeing the fantastic learning we have been doing in school and at home. You will find lots of important and useful information below too. We will regularly update our page so please keep visiting back to see what we have been up to!
Our PE days are on a Mondays and Wednesdays. Please make sure you have a full PE kit- indoor and outdoor in school on these days.
Home Learning will be set on a Friday where we set a Mathletics and a Readiwriter. Log ins for these portals can be found in the front of your Reading Diary. Reading books will be changed on a Monday but these can be changed throughout the week if you would like further books. You will also find lots of wonderful books on the Bug Club website, using your log in. Please ask a teacher if you require a new password. Please complete all home learning by the end of the following week.
Thank you :)
Spellings will be set in accordance with our phonics lessons and revision. Children will also receive common exception words to learn. In class, we refer to these as tricky words as they do not follow regular phonics patterns.
Practice reading and writing these words at home. Have a go at the Year 2 ones if you would like a challenge!

Spring has arrived!
We have been learning about the seasonal changes of Spring in Science. We went on a nature hunt around the school grounds in search of signs of Spring and we found lots of flowers beginning to grow, buds on trees and we even spotted some insects flying around! In our outdoor area, we worked as a team to prepare the garden for the Summer term. We did lots of weeding, planted some new flowers and we even found a hedgehog sleeping! We were very careful not to disturb it!
We visited our school pond and we discovered some frog spawn. We remembered learning about the life cycle of a frog in Foundation Stage. We are looking forward to the next stage!
We also made some rain makers to measure the rainfall in our outdoor area which we will measure and observe over the next few months. Have a look at our findings below!
Each week Mrs Pape will choose a child or two children that have shown 100% effort and enthusiasm towards their home learning tasks.
It has been so hard to choose as I know lots of you are doing great work at school and at home.
Our topic this summer term is 'Beside the sea'. We opened our topic with a wonderful 'Beach Day' where we played hook a duck, made wind socks and kites, created our own fish tanks for our aquarium role play, discussed our favourite seaside visits and most importantly we ate ice cream!
